lush caca rouge review (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

hi there cuties~ today i'm going to be reviewing a hair dye by LUSH, which is a popular bath and body store that uses all natural ingredients. i've been a fan of their bath bombs for a while now, so when i decided to dye my hair red with henna, they're where i turned. this isn't a sponsored review or anything, i just am bored while waiting for my packages from other stores hehe~
now, i've seen a lot of different things on dyeing your hair with henna. i'm the sort of person who has to extensively research things before she does it, haha. and the reviews are kind of back and forth on this, both for people who've never used henna before and people who've used it their whole lives. if you're planning on dyeing your hair, research! don't just stop at my review, because there are some risks and limitations to henna, and i definitely believe everyone should be thoroughly informed before making big decisions. for example, if you use henna before or after using chemical dyes within a certain amount of time, your hair could turn green! or fall off! (*;´`) so please please please be careful, my lovelies. i don't want anything not-fun to happen to you!
the product itself can be bought either online here or in lush stores, if you happen to have one near you. if you do, i definitely suggest going in; each store has a henna representative, and they can tell you a lot more about the product. that's what i did, and the girl who helped me was super knowledgeable about it all! she even gave me some tips that the store itself doesn't (such as leaving it in for a LOT longer than what they tell you to, haha). if you can’t make it in, you should definitely do that research i suggested; i found a lot of different tips online, like adding lemon juice, which will make your experience dyeing your hair a bit better. it also comes in lots of different colours, so you don't have to go red like i did~! i really like how cute the bars are, too~
the first thing you’ll notice, whether you do the research or not, is the smell. people mention it online, but i didn’t really pay attention to it. as someone who’s really sensitive to smells, i should’ve! now, it doesn’t smell BAD, at least not to me. kind of like dirt, hehe~ that makes sense, because you’re basically dyeing your hair with mud! since i enjoy gardening, it’s a smell i’m used to, but i can see how it would bother other people.
you don’t have to cut up the whole block, unless you have very thick, long hair. my hair is about to my boobs and very thin, and i used half the brick. the most important thing with this is to have someone you can do your hair with~! henna doesn’t spread like regular dye, and it’s very messy. having a friend or family member help you out will make life much easier! even with my mom helping me, though, i made a big mess. we even found some henna on the lights! it wasn't easy to spread, and didn't seem to go on even, but this is a fault with henna itself and not lush. (note: please don't do what my mom did and try to comb through your hair while the henna is in it. it HURTS.)
oddly enough, i found the overall experience pretty relaxing. i thought that having warm goop in my hair would feel weird, but it was like a spa~ i left mine in for six hours (lush only suggest 2-4, but everyone seems to agree that this isn't enough time for it to do its thing. even the employee i talked to said to go for six instead), and settled in for a lotr marathon ✧*.◟(ˊᗨˋ)◞.*✧♪ْ˖⋆

my before pictures are a little boring ;;; i'm not wearing makeup in either of them~! in the first, you can see my hair before i did anything to it, including cut my bangs (they looked pretty bad, didn't they?) i'm naturally a dark, ashy blonde, and i haven't dyed my hair at all in about a year. before that, i'd only been using plant based dyes! that's part of why i wanted to do this, hehe. i can only go so long before i get bored~

i only used a single paintbrush (the largest one) to do this. again, though, chopping up the henna was really hard. i wish i'd listened to some of the people online and grated it instead! then it would've melted a bit faster, too.

it looks pretty dang gross once you get it in, but that's to be expected when you're putting mud in your hair! i didn't wear makeup while putting it on, either, because what's the point? i just had to wipe my face down afterwards anyway haha. i highly suggest putting some vaseline on (or, if you'd like to buy a product from lush, their ultrabland cleanser is a good option) before you do this. i did, but i wish i'd put on more! my mom was a little messy (´Д` )

NOTE: THE REST OF THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN AFTER WASHING OUT THE DYE AND WAITING A WEEK FOR THE COLOUR TO FULLY DEVELOP

ah, i wish i could say i still held the same excitement for this product that i had before i'd used it. after seven hours (i spaced out and left it in for an extra hour while watching the walking dead), i expected a pretty vibrant colour! that wasn't in the cards, though. in fact, almost no colour was at all.

almost all of this tint actually comes from the sun, not my hair! and, despite what other people said, i didn't notice a huge improvement in my hair's health (definitely not enough for 25$!). it makes me sad, because i really wanted to love this product, but it's just not worth it. however, i will gleefully recommend you spend that money on bath bombs or other hair care treatments from lush, instead! their bath bombs have always been super relaxing to me and are a great self care item.

i've been really sick the last week or so, so i don't have much energy to keep writing for this! my previous purchases should be coming in this weekend, though, and i'll get my hands on them once i get back from my cousin's bridal shower! those reviews will hopefully be much more fun than this one~

i hope you guys all have a wonderful day! if you have any questions about my experience with this henna hair dye, please message me @pastelfaile on tumblr ✧*.◟(ˊᗨˋ)◞.*✧
